Agarics Agarics are the classic gilled mushrooms, found in habitats ranging from forests and grasslands to lawns and woodlands. Their ecology is diverse: some are decomposers that feed on dead wood, leaves, or organic matter, while others form mycorrhizal partnerships with living trees. Boletes Boletes are mushrooms with pores rather than gills, typically found in forests growing near trees. Most boletes are mycorrhizal, meaning they live in a mutually beneficial relationship with tree roots, exchanging soil nutrients and water for sugars produced by the tree.
